    re: the Japanese PM’s EV endorsement… is there no PHEV contingent in Japan? Instead of their unhelpful and unenthusiastic response to the PM’s desire to increase Japan’s energy independence, Toyota could instead respond in short order with a plug-in hybrid option.

    Yes, And they could bet a few Yen on high oil prices and be the first in the EV market. Behind the scenes, I expect they are already working on it, those Prius hybrids did seem to emerge quickly! There’s no lack of demand.
