Welcome to the Electric Car Weblog. In addition to links, news, and tips about electric cars and other forms of alternative transportation we are publishing an on-line diary of our current EV project. Started in August 2005 the chronicle follows the conversion of a gas powered Ford Probe into an Electric Car.

You will find articles organized by categories, along with recent comments, along the right hand column of the website. If you are just getting started with the idea of converting a gas car to electric be sure to check out Your First Electric Car .

Welcome and enjoy!

VW Golf transmission link adaptor

We just got back this week from our (too short) vacation to California. It was GREAT to be somewhere that it didn’t rain around the clock. And, Sun, I’d almost forgotten what it was.

Saw a couple EVs and a bunch of Prius hybrids. At one point I was keeping track of how many Prius we saw vs. the new Ford Mustang. Along Hwy 1 the count was about even, being prime winding-road sports car territory, but once we were in city areas the Prius easily took a commanding lead.

EVAlbum · 2 May 06

For the past few months (it’s all a blur!) we’ve been spending some free evenings and weekends working on an important EV project. Not making an EV this time, but creating a tool for all of the folks who have made or are thinking of making their own electric car, bike, scooter, boat, lawnmower, tractor, and, hey, maybe even an electric airplane.

It’s the new EVAlbum:

EVConvert traffic

...the internet is here!

Oh, boy, looks like the price of gas has been going up a bit? No, that chart isn’t following gas trends it’s traffic to this site in the past year (the site’s only been around since late August). It’s been a period of, more or less, steady growth in traffic. Except for a couple dramatic spikes.

There’s only one possible explanation:

EVConvert traffic is being controlled by the oil industry!

No sooner had I posted the battery article last Saturday than we discovered that both the dishwasher and the clothes washer were broken.

Guess how I spent the weekend and part of the week?

Site Changes · 20 February 06

Well, hopefully this is an unnecessary message, but just in case…

I’ve updated the EVConvert software (TextPattern) and while I think everything is back in order there’s always the chance that some obscure page or functionality is messed up. Drop me an email or leave a comment if you find something strange.

Who Killed the Electric Car? · 25 January 06

Who Killed the Electric Car

David Dymaxion got a chance to see an early showing of the movie, Who Killed the Electric Car? at this week’s Sundance Film Festival.

David posted a review of the film to the Electric Vehicle Discussion List and I asked for permission to re-post it here for those who don’t follow the list.

Yagoo!

If you look in the lower right corner of the page you’ll see some new icons: Add to Google, My Yahoo!, My MSN, Bloglines, and NewsGator. Clicking these will add EV Convert’s “feed” to the corresponding service.

What’s a feed? Basically it’s a way to subscribe to updates from a number of site, like this one, in one central location. Rather than trying to remember to visit a bunch of sites to see if any of them have changed, the “feed service” does the work for you.

If you haven’t played around it I’d suggest giving it a try. When I post a new article, the service will show the title’s post. A quick click and you are brought right to the new entry.

There’s also some cool desktop applications which do the same thing, but run right on your computer.
